900 workers laid off from Sony PlayStation
This time, Sony laid off workers. Recently, about 900 workers were laid off from Sony's PlayStation division. Sony PlayStation has announced that they are laying off eight percent of their workforce worldwide. PlayStation chief Jim Ryan termed it as a 'sad news'.
This Sony PlayStation was established in 2002. Basically, it is a virtual reality gaming platform. Sony's London studio is about to close completely, not just layoffs.
The head of PlayStation Studios, Hermann Hulst, said that the decision to close Sony PlayStation Studios is being made to bring games to mobile and computers. Sony's video game segment "Marvel's Spider-Man 2" is gaining popularity, but the PlayStation 5 is facing tough competition, the company said.
It should be noted that layoffs have started in 2024. Before Sony, Google is laying off hundreds of employees from its digital assistant, hardware and engineering teams. US prop-tech startup FrontDesk Company also laid off workers. 200 workers lost their jobs in just 2 minutes of Google Meet. According to California-based website Layoffs, the tech sector lost 260,000 jobs last year.
